So I finally got my 2016 BMW 335i tuned last week and the car feels amazing at full throttle, but now there’s this metallic rattling sound when I’m cruising at low rpm, like around 1500 to 2000. It only happens when I’m barely on the gas, not during acceleration or deceleration. I’m worried I might have messed up the downpipe install when I put it on before the tune, but then why didn’t it make noise before the calibration? A buddy said it could be wastegate rattle or maybe the heat shield is loose. I’ve been reading forums for hours and someone mentioned that certain tunes change the boost control behavior which can make existing loose parts vibrate at different frequencies. I checked under the car yesterday and couldn’t find anything obviously loose. The shop I used was https:dynostarworkshop.com and they seemed knowledgeable when I called to ask about it, said I should bring it in so they can listen, but it’s a 45 minute drive and I’m hoping someone here has dealt with a similar issue before. Could it be something serious like the turbo bearings or am I overthinking a simple rattle? Just don’t want to keep driving if I’m causing damage.
